Sivaji audio hits the stores

The audio of the much awaited movie Sivaji hit the stores on Monday. The music of the movie scored by AR Rahman, the musical legend in the country was much expected and audiences are now enjoying the audio of the movie. With Rajinikanth and Shriya, Shankar has directed the movie. Playback singers like SPB, Hariharan, Udit Narayan, Chnimayee and lot others have sung the musical hits for the movie. The lyrics for the movie have been penned by Vairamuthu, Vijay, Muthukumar and Vaalee. It can be remembered that songs of the movie Sivaji were pirated and three songs of the movie were going round in the internet. To stop the other songs of the movie to be pirated the director of the movie planned to release the audio earlier which was earlier slated for release on 4 th of April.

Big B in Sivaji

Big B Amitabh Bachchan is appearing in a very good guest role.

The bilingual film from the AVM Productions, 'Sivaji', directed by Shankar with Rajanikanth and Shriya in the lead had completed shooting and other formalities both in Telugu and Tamil languages.

This heavy budget film has music from AR Rahman.

The production unit is planning to celebrate the audio release function also on a grand scale in Chennai on March 26.

Suman is playing a negative role in this movie, while Big B Amitabh Bachchan is appearing in a very good guest role.

After completing all the formalities, the producers are planning to release the film on April 14.

Kamal, Rajini meet up

It was a chance meeting of the two greats of Tamil film industry.

Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan, very good friends and finest actors in the industry, met up at AVM studios.

Rajinikanth is working in Sivaji while Kamal is fully engrossed in Dasavatharam.

A few patches-up shots of Rajini are being canned at theAVM while Kamal is shooting in another floor of the same studio where there has been a magnificent set erected for his film.

When Rajini was shooting at AVM, he came to know that Kamal was in another floor.

Rajini who has high regard for Kamal went over to meet him.

Kamal who also cherished his association with Rajini hugged and welcomed him.

The two immediately went to the shooting caravan and were closeted there.

It is said that Kamal showed some photos of his in Dasavatharam to Rajini.

Rajini, seeing Kamal's make-up, was impressed with it and immediately praised Kamal. He in fact expressed a happy surprise at Kamal’s make-up and wondered whether it was him in some of the photos.

Rajini wished Kamal for the success in Dasavatharam and later left the floor.

The humility and spontaneous warmth of the two superstars of the industry is indeed the talking point.

Rajini as Chiru in Sivaji

Rajinikanth is a close friend of Chiranjeevi.

The two have a long association and they go back a long way to their formative years in Madras of the 70s.

Now Rajini who is acting in Shankar’s Sivaji is paying compliment to his friend Chiranjeevi in the film.

Sivaji who is shooting for the final few scenes of the film has acted as NTR and Chiranjeevi, two legends of Telugu cinema, for a song. This is a small portion in the song.

This particular version has been specifically shot for the Telugu edition of Sivaji.

Rajini in Sivaji

With Sivaji – the big daddy of Tamil films this year – heading for a mid-summer-2007 release, distribution rights of the movie are being discussed upon in full tilt. Vying for the rights of the movie among others, that is promisingly money-spinning, are topnotch media giants and corporates.

However, AVM seem to be contemplating profoundly on Sivaji’s business in Tamil Nadu now it has already been sold in Andhra and Kerala.

Sivaji has managed to fetch an astronomical 14 crores in Telugu. Distribution rights in Andhra Pradesh have been bagged by producer Bellamkonda Suresh. Whereas in Kerala, the movie was sold for 3.5 crores, yet unheard for another movie in god’s own country.

Since ticket rates of Andhra and Kerala underwent no changes, as opposed to Tamil Nadu, Sivaji is expected to generate fecund box office collections. Besides, with big names such as Rajini and Shankar associated with Sivaji, the distributors in those states face relatively low risk factor.

Business in home turf

Apparently, Sivaji’s business in neighboring states has churned out huge expectations in Tamil Nadu as well. If we consider Sivaji’s selling price in Andhra and Kerala, the movie is expected to fetch atleast 50 crores in Tamil Nadu, revealed a leading distributor from NSC area to Behindwoods correspondent. However, trade pundits are unsure of the profits the movie would spawn if it was sold at 50 crores.

Based on the collections of the recent blockbuster movies, it could be adjudged that the slash in ticket rates has had a huge impact on the profit. The collections dropped by just half after that, stated another trade source to our correspondent.
On the other hand, if the 50 crore package included overseas, audio, and satellite rights, Sivaji would prove to be a buyer’s delight. Rumors hover around the Sivaji stable substantiate the same.

Case Study

Earlier, blockbuster Vettaiyadu Vilayadu has been released in 11 theatres in Chennai. Sivaji is expected to be released in atleast 15 theatres however. Since the initial collections in two weeks will decide the profit ratio of the movie, it is expected that Sivaji will be released in a maximum number of theatres to cash in on the success mantra and to reap benefits.

By all means, the hottest business deal in Kodambakkam ever is around the corner and is creating ripples among the trade circles every now and then.

While work has started in right earnest for the film Sivaji, the music director has not yet been decided. While

Shankar would like Harris Jayaraj after the stupendous success of Anniyan, Rajinikanth felt that Vidyasagar’s songs also played a major role in the success of Chandramukhi. Meanwhile, the producers would like to have A.R. Rahman to add a dash of richness. As of now, folks are busy with finalizing the screenplay and hence the announcement of the music director will be made only a while later.

Vaa..ji, Vaa..ji Sivaji - a song sequence shot at the Ramoji Rao Film City at Hyderabad with sets reportedly costing Rs. 2.75 crores.

The crew of the movie is under strict orders not to divulge any information about the film, its story or about the events on the sets. Still, some local magazines have managed to acquire pictures of the sets. This angered the director and AVM so much that the director is now planning to completely ban the use of camera-phones on the sets.

Aishwarya Rai, Ayesha Takia and Rani Mukherjee were considered initially for the role of heoroine but finally Shriya had gracefully accepted the role.

Actress Sandhya was approached to dub the voice of Shriya, but then the offer was given to Kanika Subramaniam

Names of many popular actresses, including Sadha, Trisha, Asin, Nayantara, Manisha Koirala and Shilpa Shetty were considered for making the item number in the film. But, finally, Mallika Sherawat, was reportedly selected to make a very special appearance in the song sequence. Later on, it was reported that Nayantara will also be doing an item number in Sivaji.

The Telugu dubbing rights of this movie has been sold to producer Bellam Konda Suresh for a price of Rs.8 crores (excluding Audio and satellite rights).

Rajinikanth, himself, sings a song in this movie. This is his second attempt at playback singing after a song in a previous film of his, Mannan.

This is the eighth film that music director and composer A.R. Rahman is working with director Shankar and the fourth film with Rajinikanth.

Indian stars Mohan Lal, Amitabh Bachchan, Nana Patekar and Sathyaraj were called on to play an important role in the film but the role had later been given to Suman due to the rejection of the role by the others.

This is the third time costume designer Manish Malhotra is working with director Shankar.

This is said to be Indian Cinema's most expensive movie. As of March 20, 2007, the budget is at approximately Rs.42 Crores Rupees.

Rajini, being the highest paid actor in India, will be receiving a paycheck higher than what he ever got for this film. Out of Sivaji’s budget, Rajini takes home close to 40 crores.

For the first time Rajini tonsured his head for this movie.

Overseas distribution rights have been sold to Ayngaran International for approximately $3 million USD.
